Students will study the solutions adopted in the physical design of databases, with a particular focus on the technologies for crash recovery, for concurrency control, for distributed transaction management and for efficient execution of queries. Moreover, students will be introduced to the architectures for data analysis and data mining and to the design of information systems in a web environment.

OLAP systems. The OLAP multi-dimensional model and its logical implementation. Introduction to data mining. Examples of the technologies and the applications faced in data mining.
The typical architecture of a web information system. Examples of the technologies exploited to access a DBMS from a web application.
Active databases and related SQL extensions.
